Behind the Brushes and Blusher

If you asked my family or closest friends to describe me they would absolutely say that I love makeup - blusher in particular! Makeup has been a huge part of who I am for as long as I can remember.

I grew up during the era of the original beauty YouTubers, spending hours watching tutorials, learning new techniques and dreaming about the latest product launches.. What started as a hobby quickly became a genuine passion. While studying for my Master’s degree in London I started a beauty blog. It was during this time that I realised makeup was far more than a hobby; it was something I wanted to pursue professionally.

After graduating, I  started working on the makeup counters. I worked for Benefit Cosmetics and then MAC in House of Frasers, Glasgow.  It was there that I developed the skills, product knowledge and customer service standards that continue to shape my business today. Unfortunately, like everyone, the COVID pandemic affected my ability to carry out freelance makeup...now fast forward 5 years (and 2 children later!) ‘Makeup by Hayley McMahon’ became a reality. 

For me, makeup has never been about changing who someone is. Every client who sits in my chair is already beautiful - I am only enhancing and illuminating what is already there! Whether you want soft, natural glam or the full works, my goal is always to help you feel confident and like the very best version of yourself.

I love sharing my knowledge throughout every appointment! From skincare advice and product recommendations to simple tips and tricks that my clients can take away and use themselves. That is the power of makeup. Seeing that smile when I hand my client the mirror over at the end of their appointment is worth its weight in gold every time. It is why I still love makeup after all of these years.
